Great American Square Dance Revival

Event Details

It’s almost fall and the DC Square Dance is roaring back into town! Hoot & Holler, a hot young duo out of Asheville, NC, will lay down the tunes — that’s Amy Alvey on fiddle and Mark Kilianski on guitar, joined by Brad Kolodner on banjo and Alex Lacquement on bass, both from Baltimore. And we’re super excited to have caller Hannah Johnson of Keezletown, Virginia making her Saint Stephens debut. If you’ve been feeling out of sorts, aimless, confused, not sure what to do without square dancing in your life, we have just the fix for you!

As always, all are welcome – young and old, brand new and experienced dancers. No partner, lessons, overalls or frilly dress needed. Just walk in and dance.

Doors at 8:00 pm; dancing 8:30 to 11:30 pm.

Admission is $5 cash or check. Sorry, no credit cards. Snacks and drinks to share are welcomed. Water bottles strongly encouraged as we can only provide limited numbers of drinking jars.

Folks outside the neighborhood, consider biking or taking the Metro! Saint Stephens is a short walk from the Columbia Heights station on the green/yellow lines. For drivers, there is some street parking and a garage below the shopping mall on Park Rd. at 14th St.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT! The DC Square Dance Collective is seeking new members to help organize dances! Only requirements are an infectious enthusiasm for square dancing and ability to attend most dances and occasional meetings. We’re especially looking for people to help with communications, publicity, graphic design and social media. If you’re interested, please email dcsquaredance@gmail.com or talk to one of us at the next dance!

This dance is sponsored by the Folklore Society of Greater Washington.
